No Ordinary People




Walking on the road, you pass so many people. Some look confident, purposeful, well-dressed and well-maintained. But the majority appears so ordinary, wear ill-fitting clothes, unfashionable footwear, have too much fat or too little, nothing remarkable about them, nothing attractive. But yet:
  • Someone somewhere eagerly waits for this unimpressive man to come home every evening.

  • Someone's entire world turns around the strength of this frail-looking woman.

  • Someone's very purpose in life hinges on this brash youngster cutting through traffic.

  • Someone knows only the shelter of these old arms each time their world begins to crumble.

  • Someone will count hours, minutes, and weep like a child when this pock-marked face alights from a long-distance train.

  • Someone will cave in, crack up, and never be the same again if this one person disappears from the face of the world.
 

There are no ordinary people.

* The Academy Award (Oscar) is the main national film award in the USA.

* The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is a professional
honorary organization composed of over 6,000 motion picture craftsmen
and women. (as of 1999)
* The Oscar statuette has been designed by
Cedric Gibbons and sculpted by Los Angeles artist George Stanley. Each
statuette is made from the alloy britannium and is then plated in
copper, nickel silver, and finally, 24-karat gold and is manufactured
by R.S. Owens and Company in Chicago. It stands 13-1/2 inches tall and
weighs 8-1/2 pounds. The Oscar depicts a knight, holding a crusader"s
sword, standing on a reel of film. The film reel features five spokes,
signifying the five original branches of the Academy (actors,
directors, producers, technicians and writers.)
* How Oscar
received his nickname is not exactly clear. The most popular story is
that Margaret Herrick, an Academy employee and eventual executive
director, remarked that the statuette resembled her Uncle Oscar, and
the Academy staff began to refer to it by that name. Whatever the
actual origin of the nickname, it was well enough known by 1934 that
Walt Disney supposedly used it during an acceptance speech that year.
Although journalists used the nickname with increasing frequency during
the late 1930s, the Academy did not officially use the name Oscar until
1939.
* As of 2000 the award ceremonies have been held 25 times at
the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 11 at the Pantages Theatre, 10 at the
Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium, 8 times each at the Biltmore Hotel and
the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, 6 at the Ambassador Hotel, 3 at
Grauman"s Chinese Theatre and once each at the Hollywood Roosevelt
Hotel and the Academy Award Theater (1949 Melrose Avenue headquarters).
* As of 2001 88 countries have submitted films for the foreign-language category at least once over the years.

* The Academy Awards ceremonies are commonly named after their
according year of eligibility of films. E.g. the ceremony which took
place in March 1997 is referred to as the 1996 Academy Awards.

Psalm of Life

This is from one of my favorite poems "A Psalm of Life" - it's the one that also expresses:
"Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime
And departing, leave behind us
Footprints in the sands of time.
Let us then be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate,
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait."
Longfellow said it so well - and his words live on, appropriate for anytime or place, because they echo the truth so beautifully.

All about Love

"Never rush in love for it never runs out. Let love be the one to knock at your door, so by the time you start to fall, you know that your feeling is for sure"

Women listen to music because they are in love. Men listen to music because they want to fall in love.

"Love has its ups and downs, its twists and turns. Love leaves you pain, teaches you until you learn and even if love takes so long, it always takes you to where you belong."

"Love is not about finding the right person, but creating the right relationship. It's not about how much love you have in the beginning but how much love you build till the end, coz love is all there is."


When you love somebody, be ready to take the intensity of emotions. Be jealous, anxious. Love with all your might. Take the pain and everything that comes with it. Just make sure that the person is worth it.


It takes three seconds to say I love you, three minutes to explain, three hours to demonstrate, three days to appreciate, three terms to produce it, but a lifetime to prove it.


Love can never be taught for it is to be learned; love can never be bought for it is to be given; love can never be kept for it is to be free; love can never be old for it lives to last a lifetime.


Love is magic. The more we hide it, the more it shows; the more you suppress it, the more it grows.

YOU CAN’T AFFORD THE LUXURY OF A NEGATIVE THOUGHT -1 (Part-1 THE DISEASE)

PART ONE
THE DISEASE
The Power of Thoughts (Part One)
Thinking is
an experimental dealing
with small quantities of energy,
just as a general

SIGMUND FREUD
A simple thought. A few micromilliwatts of energy flowing through our brain. A seemingly innocuous, almost ephemeral event. And yet, a thought--or, more accurately, a carefully orchestrated series of thoughts--has a significant impact on our mind, our body, and our emotions.

Thoughts cause responses in the body. Think of a lemon. Imagine cutting it in half. Imagine removing the seeds with the point of a knife. Smell the lemon. Now, imagine squeezing the juice from the lemon into your mouth. Imagine digging your teeth into the center of the lemon. Chew the pulp. Feel those little things (whatever those little things are called) breaking and popping inside your mouth. Most people's salivary glands respond to the very thought of a lemon.

For some people, thinking about the sound of fingernails on a chalkboard is physically uncomfortable. Try this--imagine an emery board or a double-sided piece of sandpaper. Imagine putting it in your mouth. Bite down on it. Now move your teeth from side to side. Goose bumps?

Thoughts influence our emotions. Think of something you love. What do you feel? Now think of something you hate. What do you feel? Now, something you love again. We don't have to change our emotions--we change our thoughts, and our emotions follow along. Now imagine your favorite place in nature. Where is it? A beach? A meadow? A mountaintop? Take your time. Imagine lying on your back, your eyes closed. Feel the sun on your face. Smell the air. Hear the sounds of creation. Become a part of it. Feel more relaxed?

Most people who took the time to try these little experiments know what I'm talking about. Those who thought, "This stuff is stupid. I'm not going to try anything as silly as this!" are left with the emotional and physiological consequences of their thoughts--perhaps irritability, impatience, or even hostility. A few--because of their thoughts about books containing sentences such as "Now imagine your favorite place in nature"--put this book down, never to pick it up again. These people (bless their independent hearts!) proved the point as well as those who followed along with the "suggested" thoughts. The point: thoughts have power over our mind, our body, and our emotions. Positive thoughts (joy, happiness, fulfillment, achievement, worthiness) have positive results (enthusiasm, calm, well-being, ease, energy, love). Negative thoughts (judgment, unworthiness, mistrust, resentment, fear) produce negative results (tension, anxiety, alienation, anger, fatigue).

To know why something as minuscule as a thought can have such a dramatic effect on our mind, body, and emotions, it helps to understand the automatic reaction human beings have whenever they perceive danger: the Fight or Flight Response.
